Star Wars game night P. II

Last time, our characters were trapped on board an analogue Event Horizonesque pre-republic frigate that was filled with the presence of a being comprised of living Dark Side energy.

The multiple gaming sessions between then and now were spent with characters wandering blindly through the ship corridors, going up and down elevators, and exploring without really exploring while the ship chipped away at their trust in their own group. 

This last Thursday (day after Christmas), we ended the first part of the saga that closed out with a twist none of the players really expected - except for the character Aeon Crow, Jedi.

The climax of the game occurred when the players were forced to face a minor boss type character, a dark side character, and were lured into the flight deck of this ancient frigate.

There on the flight deck, they were faced with another dark side character, one that was levels far above the characters, and well beyond their skill.

This was a months long plan to twist the end of this chapter in the session, and teach the players a very valuable lesson.

The game was satisfying, to say the least. The end-all of the session was that the primary antagonist and villain... wasn’t exactly a villain at all. She was an ancient Miraluka, and an original part of the ship’s crew some fourteen-thousand years prior (insert groan here). I know a fourteen-thousand year old dark force user sounds like a stretch, but the dark force inhabiting the ship was sustaining her life and she was its tool to escape the ship, and the unknown regions of wild space to habitable sectors of the galaxy where it could spread its sinister influence.

So this dark force using ancient used projected telepathy to communicate with the characters, though the Jedi largely was her only regularly able receiver... and she revealed to him the true plan, and why she was cooperating with the living darkness that inhabited the frigate. 

She would lure the darkness into a shuttle craft, and once clear of the ship, destroy the craft.

The players failed this test, but their failure wasn’t costly to the game experience. The soldier of the group beheaded the dark Miraluka with a sucker punch from a stolen lightsaber.

Her last communication to Aaron Crow revealed the plan all along, and ultimately the living darkness did in fact escape from the frigate and disappear into hyperspace aboard the shuttle craft before the players could do a thing about it.

Not all things are as they appear, and even what appears to be a dark side user or Sith can be more than meets the eye. 

The characters now have an ancient frigate at their command, though they’re still in a part of space where they’ve no idea.

Though they lost the battle with darkness, they all learned a very valuable lesson about approach and the possibilities of consequences that extend well beyond their existence as characters.

Their mission failed, the characters still celebrated the small victory over the darknes and though the mission was a failure, the game was an enormous success.

I’m enjoying the game, and I’m excited to see how they do as they blindly explore the unknown regions of wild space.
