Social media addiction is a severe disorder, and can cause severe side effects.

It's no wonder that the 32nd Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry held a session titled “Stress & Technology - Could Facebook & Computers Be Making You Sick?”.

Research presented at this meeting was eye-opening.

Dr. Andrew Przybylski revealed in his presentation that social media such as Facebook can be mind-numbing and addictive to such an extent that it quickly diminishes genuine human connection.

...but, let's be honest. We all have a toxic love-hate relationship with social media. Our connection to these platforms allows us to share every private facet of our lives, air out dirty laundry, and for some of us that even means internet fame (or infamy).

It's like the relationship between a drug and its addict. The more you use it, the more you’ll need it; and the more you do it, the less you’ll be able to live without it.

This behavior is poisonous. Venomous. Destructive.

As digital connectivity becomes more widespread throughout the world, there is also an increasing reliance on our devices - and Facebook, specifically. The phrase "data addiction" has slowly begun to take over the mainstream consciousness as to realize that yes, we do struggle with our phones and social media time tests to measure how much time we spend using our digital devices. Perhaps the idea of a Metaverse, or living mostly in this digital space, will become less appealing if we could actually see what it was doing to us.

...but in order to do that, we have to be on the outside, looking in and no on the inside looking out as we have been for as long as we have been.

In an ideal world, perhaps we wouldn't be so distracted by the virtual world of social media and Facebook alike, but this is a blessing and a curse. Technology has given us a new outlet for human interaction, but it's also taken our focus away from the things that really matter –like face-to-face interactions with friends and loved ones.

It's no surprise that this special place for social media has twisted its way into our hearts, which is convenient for the social media companies who keep everyone so interconnected they forget about everything else in life, including getting out into the real world and experiencing life, beyond technology.

In fact, the latter part of that is our motto, our slogan.

...life, beyond technology.

You might have heard that tabletop roleplaying games are just for geeks. But there are a lot of benefits to playing them, even if you're not into nerdy hobbies. Playing tabletop RPGs can actually improve your social skills, make you more creative, and even help you with your career. It's no secret to gamers that tabletop roleplaying games can make friends out of strangers.

Once you find or build your gaming troupe, over the course of game nights, evenings spent immersed in story and laughed, and talking over snacks and drinks - it becomes clear that real personal bonds are being made.

We seek to harness that power, that positive energy, for purposes other than just getting together with your "gamer buddies". We want to bring folks together - not just gamers anymore - but people who have shared interests. If you have ever played any tabletop roleplaying game, this will be familiar.

All you need is a few friends willing to meet up, and see what magic you can work.

Life is short, and time feels like it moves by so quickly. eNERDgy, INC. hopes you'll get out there and experience its every facet, live its every adventure, and connect to one another as often as you can. Pull up a table, gather your troupe, get your favorite tabletop roleplaying game, and roll some dice. You won't be sorry you did.
